Flint: Treasure of Oblivion – 5 Essential Beginner Tips

5 crucial tips for every beginner braving the seven seas in Flint: Treasure of Oblivion.

The life of a pirate is as dangerous as it is full of treasure. High-stakes combat, hidden items and unique characters breathe life into the world of Flint: Treasure of Oblivion. Here’s 5 tips so that you’re not consumed by their harsh tides.

1. Explore Everywhere.

Whenever Captain Flint is able to move freely about the world you should always search every nook and cranny of each area. Powerful weapons and unique items such as dice re-rolls often seem like simple background decorations until you move closer to them and they become highlighted by a yellow outline and an exclamation mark appears above it.

2. Remember to level up.

Your crew levels up after they’ve been given their share in Flint: Treasure of Oblivion

Traditionally, RPG games assign experience points to characters after performing difficult endeavors or after the conclusion of combat. This is not so in Flint: Treasure of Oblivion and you will need to go into the “Crew” tab on the menu screen in order to share out gold you’ve collected to give your crew the experience they’ve earned. This isn’t explained in the brief tutorial section, so it can be easy to hold your crew back from achieving their full potential.

3. Check each characters’ abilities.

Character abilities are powerful and make it easy to determine their role.

Each character comes with a set of 3 abilities and can learn one more as they level up. These perks define the roles of your characters, making them incredibly efficient in their specializations. Strategy is the key to victory in Flint: Treasure of Oblivion and you’ll need every edge you’re able to get in order to come out on top.

4. Downed enemies are easier to hit.

Enemies that are knocked down are easier to hit.

Knocking down an enemy will often mean their demise. The easiest way to knock down an enemy is to attempt to move onto the same tile that they occupy and either tackle them or push the target into the same direction as a wall, obstacle, or other character. A successful push against into the same direction as a character or terrain will cause the pushed character to fall down and become an easy target.

5. Don’t waste dice re-rolls.

A dice re-roll.

Every so often, Captain Flint will come across items called “Dice Re-rolls.” These are powerful items that allow you to re-roll an unfavorable dice roll in or out of combat and will appear plentiful at first. While it may be tempting to re-roll missed attacks or “status quo” push results, these valuable items should always be saved for the worst outcomes, such as when your characters’ weapon breaks after an attack or you fail a trial outside of combat. These become scarce as you get further into the game, so be sure to carefully consider each time you use one.

With these tips, you should easily sail through the dangerous world of Flint: Treasure of Oblivion and conquer the seven seas. Be sure to check out our review here.
